Good one.
Also, aNc really impressed. Their Ranger was definately MVP. I still can't help thinking what would have happened if Kestrel had been able to play on Sunday though - having me there was a definate disadvantage.
Good job PnH also - was rooting for you guys after we got eliminated.

Indeed, the main change NR did to their mesmer spike after round 1 was adding more shutdown to their build. They started to use Diversion prior to every spike, which prevented PnH Me/E galer to disrupt it. And they did have an extra Me during round 2, it sure helped them to spike down targets faster. Even in round 3 with PnH running their two Angelic Bonder paragons, it wasn't that an easy win. So yes, maybe that's when they got the idea to run that build, seeing how powerful it is against any other spike. Certainly the way to go if you're sure your opponent won't run a pressure build with a certain amount of defense.
+ 1 to the Kirei Z fanclub. Actually, +1 to the whole aNc fanclub, their gank split, their backline... =o

Yep, GJ PnH, one of my fav guilds.
And for as long as I can remember people have been saying "Spike is only a gimmick to farm ladder, it never works in the chamionships"
HAHA! So much for that theory, FC airspike? SP Spike? Eurospike?

Their monks were simply awesome when that ele runner was near the flagstand, 2 or even 3 infuse and they still managed to stay alive under that scary pressure. I think it just took too much effort to play against Cel a bit later...

Definately. They were always playing on the edge, just amazing how many times they managed not to collapse.
Honestly, even though Cel played really well during their semi final (round 2 especially), I had the feeling aNc could get it in two rounds. They made a few mistakes at the end of the 2nd match, more than what Cel needed to punish them. And aNc were nowhere near as brilliant in that final match. Sure, Cel spike was just that good but it's not as if aNc hasn't dealt with good spiking on Burning Isle previously. IMO, the bitter loss and the tiredness (they spent loads of adre in their previous matches, especially because of their playstyle and because they were an underdog all the way) didn't really help.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the way tournament play works.

Again grats to aNc, I don't think anyone really expected you guys to go far, but you sure did.
Amazing tactics, nice ranger, and I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW YOUR MONKS KEPT FROM BREAKING!!!
I swear at least 10 times in that game against QQ I was about to say gg to you guys and that you put on a nice showing, but someone then you'd somehow prove me wrong and keep going.

Speaking of, I got a screenie of one of the angelic bonders' damage meter showing Angelic Bond x60. I cracked up when I saw that.. both of the bonders' health going down in tiny packets. So funny ^^

Angelic Bonds are nice against spikes, but they make you die at VoD as PnH tested.
In second match with aNc, i think it was preety even before VoD, they had 7 npc's more or so and we were a little ahead with morale. At VoD our 2 mesmers in our base manage to kill their split team and that gave us time to kill all their npcs, with dp and without npcs it was only gg.

I was happy when NR proved they can effectively run balanced instead of mass hex. Tag was suprising, as was eF's loss and QQ's (I really think of QQ as gods of america). Despite the fact I only could watch around 7-10 matches to time constrant I feel this was a good tournament.

That's because most of the time, spike sacrificed utility. By giving a class that practically defines utility their own Obsidian Flame (with splash!) in their most annoying spell line, that kind of got sidestepped.

pnh is damn lucky tag errored 3 times vs them.
or tag would of been the champions.
they lost to pnh in swiss format when they pushed them back into base turtling with no npcs left. maybe 2 archers. but the monk had to error7 at around 18mins.
then in semis when they met,in game 1, a monk did not even load, and the match could not be restarted for some reason.
in game 2, tag pulled out a neat hex build that was owning, but a monk lagged inside pnh base when they had them pushed back again, and tag took deaths and lost position, as the monked lagged for 2mins right before vod would hit. which led to tag getting ganked eventually, when they controlled to fight once again.
by watching game 1 of semis, with another monk tag could of easily took game 1.
imo tag should of won this tournament , pnh got damn lucky. but congrats pnh for luck and skill

Like I said in a previous post it was a dissapointing way to go. However PnH game one really did favor them. Even if our monk were to have loaded PnH is Extremly good at the frozen isle and had a very stong build against us. We assumed they would chose either isle of worms or frozen because they had faced this build in swiss play and had issues beating it. We had some good split strategies setup, but even then it would have been a really tough fight for us. (More than 1 reconnect per tourney would be nice )
As for game 2 you pretty much summed it up very well. We lost a lot with that team wipe at around 17 mins and our monk was still having some issues into VoD, forcing our runner to be needed at stand. In the end they did outplay us at VoD though and we made some silly mistakes. Would it have got to that point if not for the 17 min team wipe? possibly.
Again as a posted previously, PnH are a great guild and I'd hardly call it luck they won this tournement. They all apologized for our errors and were very nice about the whole thing.
All in All it was a great tournement for us and placing 4th was still an honor. We were very pleased that everyone liked our builds and that we made a strong showing.

I finally got to watch some aNc game too last night and i'm also a fan =p
It was so refreshing to watch their play style after all the other matches where health doesn't drop for the first 20 min with the exception of 2-3 deaths to spike if that.
And though his ego will end up going off the roof i'm a Kirei fan too =p Was so fun to watch. And that Infuse monk was hilarious, it's like Infuse was his only heal. I saw him Infuse with like 50 health left. But somehow he/she always managed to keep people alive and stay alive miraculously and in game 3 vs QQ they seemed about to die sooo often it was pretty amazing.
Looking forward to obsing you again next ladder =p
